Camp Curtain Call
is proud to welcome our newest staff member for Summer 2008! Following
a productive spring internship, Sandy Shelton will be joining
us this summer assisting in the office as part of the CCC
Administrative Team, and as a member of the dance staff . . . and
everywhere in between!
A
native of New Jersey, Sandy was first introduced to dance at a very
young age. Although athletics and martial arts consumed a lot of his
childhood, there was always time for dance.
Growing up
Sandy became a regular with the community theater company Phoenix
Productions, performing in dozens of musicals. Additionally, he
continued to dance with the Performing Arts Ensemble (the community
ballet company that first got him involved with dance). During his 12
years with PAE, Sandy was exposed to many classical ballets and
original works totaling; 30 separate productions, over 100
performances, and 25 different roles.
Since enrolling at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in August
2005, Sandy has worked in Information Technical support, played
lacrosse for the UT club team, was voted president of the UT Dance
Company, joined Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity),
and has done technical theatre work for various student productions.
In
the fall of 2006, Sandy applied to College Scholars program with the
program title, “The Business of Dance Production and Performance,” and
was accepted later that term. College Scholars is a honors
program at UT where students design their own curriculum and,
ultimately, create their own major.
In
his professional career as a performer, Sandy has been a guest artist
for studio and community dance companies, a ballroom dancer for the
independent film Paint Me In featuring Stephen Baldwin,
a featured dancer in a regional TV commercial staring Peyton Manning,
and he performed at Hoot ‘N Holler Dinner Show in Pigeon
Forge,TN.
Tragically, in October 2007, Sandy had to stop performing due to a
torn ACL. While in recovery he has turned his focus to dance
choreography and theater administration, which led him to Camp Curtain
Call.
Sandy is thrilled to have the
opportunity to apply his traditional business education while
simultaneously sharing his love of dance.
We're delighted to have Sandy join us this summer and look forward to a wonderful season
of great shows, great fun,
and great experiences! Sandy will be fully recuperated from his
ACL injury by summer time and ready to lead some phenomenal
dance classes! If you haven't already, register soon and come join us!
